Description
No 4 St John's Square is part of the St John's Hospital complex. It is likely a rebuilding from around 1825 of a 16th century house and includes part of a late Norman arcade. The building has an 'L' shaped plan extending to the south and west of the chapel. It is constructed from rubble and brick with flint, and features tiled roofs. The gable end to the east, which is above the chapel, is coped and has a belfry. There is one range of windows on the south side and one panel on the first floor, with two ranges of two-light casements on the east side. The entrance is located in the return to the south-east and also in the center of the east side. Inside the kitchen, there is a part of a late Norman pier embedded in the wall.
