Description
Elmsgate House is a detached house from the early 19th century, constructed in Flemish bond brick with a hipped Welsh slate roof and brick stacks. The building is designed in an L-plan and has two storeys with a five-window south front. The central entrance features a six-panelled door with a transom, set within a stone Tuscan portico. To the left of the entrance is a canted bay, and there are two additional canted bays to the right, all equipped with margin-pane French windows, while plain French windows are located at the far right. The first floor contains five 16-pane sash windows with flat brick arches, flanked by brick pilasters. The roof has deep eaves.
To the left of the main house is a single-storey range that includes a canted brick bay and French windows. The left return features a gabled front with a six-panelled door and semi-circular headed two-light casements on both the ground and attic floors, along with a moulded stone plat band and coping at the gable. The rear of the house has segmental-headed casements and sashes, as well as a tile-hung square tower with 20th-century casements. The interior was not accessible during the survey in February 1987.
