Description
Moon Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and features a thatched roof with a half-hip on the left side and a coped verge on the right, along with a brick stack. The cottage has a baffle-entry plan and is one storey with an attic, displaying a single-window facade.
The entrance, located to the left of center, has a 20th-century door with a thatched canopy above it. To the left of the door is a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned window, while to the right are a three-light and a two-light ovolo-mullioned window, both with hoodmoulds. The dormer in the attic is a full flush design, featuring a three-light ovolo-mullioned window with a hoodmould.
On the right side of the cottage, there is a two-light recessed chamfered mullioned window in the attic. The left side has 20th-century casement windows, and the rear includes a one-light and a two-light ovolo-mullioned window, along with a 20th-century flat-roofed extension and a 20th-century casement in the attic. The interior was not accessible during the survey in March 1985. It appears that the south bay may be an addition, possibly from the late 17th century, indicated by a straight joint with quoins to the left of the front door.
