Description

The model farm buildings at Manor Farm were constructed around 1870 for the Earl of Pembroke's Wilton Estate. They are made of dressed limestone and feature Welsh slate roofs. The buildings are arranged in an E-plan layout, with the open sides of the yards facing south.

The west range includes barns with double sliding doors, a stable door, and shuttered windows on the east side, all featuring cambered heads. The west side has fewer openings, while the south gable has a 12-pane fixed window and the roof has two louvred vents. The middle range, which now contains a 20th-century barn, previously had an open-fronted shelter shed. At the south end, there is a free-standing dairy with blocked openings, a hipped roof, and louvred vents.

The east range consists of cowsheds and stabling. The east-facing side has two gabled loft doors with external stone and wooden steps, shuttered windows, and a segmental-arched planked door to the right. There is also an ashlar stack with moulded capping to the right. The west side of this range, facing the yard, has five planked stable doors and shuttered windows, along with a central gabled loft door that now has a fixed window.

The north range features double-gabled open-fronted feed sheds facing the yards, equipped with louvred vents. The north side, which faces outward, contains cartsheds and open-fronted storage bays for equipment and feed. The central gable has a group of three stepped round-arched lancets with keystones above double sliding doors, with double hinged doors to the right.

Inside, the buildings have stone floors, planked doors, and exposed queen-post roof trusses in the north range. Together with the dovecote and farmhouse, this site represents a well-preserved example of a model farm.
