Description

The Mill House is a house and mill dating to the late 18th century, with alterations in the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with a slate roof. The house portion is two storeys and two bays, with a central glazed door sheltered by a zinc ogee canopy. It originally contained 16-pane sash windows, although the ground-floor windows have been replaced with 20th-century canted sash bays. Gable stacks are present. The mill adjoins the house to the right, spanning four bays and built over a mill leat that branches off the River Kennet. The earlier mill section utilizes diaper brick, brick laced with flint on returns, and a blue band at floor level. It features segmental headed 6-pane sashes, hopper windows, and two gabled dormers to the loft. A 20th-century door is located in the fourth bay. It includes bracketed weatherboarded sack hoist under an extension of the roof over the right gable, and wide eaves. Outbuildings are attached to the rear of the right gable of the mill. The internal mill machinery was removed when the building was converted to domestic use.
