Description
Middle Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was rebuilt in the 18th century and is now a detached house. It features a dressed limestone south gable end, English garden wall bond brick on a rubble stone plinth, and a double Roman tiled roof with brick stacks. The building has a baffle-entry plan and is two stories tall with two windows. There is a six-panelled door located up steps to the right of center, flanked by 12-pane sash windows on both sides, and paired 8-pane sashes to the left. The right-hand bay includes a basement with a 17th-century two-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement and a planked door, along with a moulded stone string course at the first floor. The left-hand side features a dentilled brick string. On the first floor, there are two 12-pane sashes. The left return is made of rubble stone with a two-light first floor casement, while the right return has a two-light first floor casement as well. The rear of the building has central 12-pane sashes, lean-to additions on either side, two sashes, and one two-light casement on the first floor, along with one flat-headed attic dormer with a casement. The interior was not accessible at the time of the survey in April 1987.
