Description
South Farmhouse is a detached house dating from the late 18th century, constructed of English garden wall bond brick with a tiled roof and brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-plan and is two stories high with a four-window front. The central entrance features a four-panelled door with a fanlight and a Tuscan stone portico. On either side of the entrance are canted bays with 12-pane sash windows and 2-light casements. The first floor has four 2-light casements.
The left side of the house has a partly rubble stone finish and additional casements. The rear includes two canted bays, French windows, and sash windows, along with a door that has six fielded panels and a segmental-headed blind window to the left. There is also a 2-light cellar casement below, while the first floor features 16-pane sashes, a 2-light casement, and a blind window. The right wing has glazed doors, tripartite 12-pane sashes, and casements.
Inside, the farmhouse retains original joinery. The front corners of the house are accented with limestone ashlar walls, chamfered rusticated end piers, and a front boundary wall with cast-iron spearhead railings, which have anthemion-decorated piers and a single gate.
