Description

Lovel House is a detached house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of yellow Flemish bond brick, with a hipped Welsh slate roof and prominent brick stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape and has two storeys over a basement, originally with three windows at the front. The basement level features a two-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement window on each side of stone steps leading to a central entrance, which has a six-panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight protected by a semi-circular stone hood. Flanked by sixteen-pane sash windows with flat arches, the front facade also has three sashes to the first floor, separated by a band of three bricks. The right return has a mullioned window to the basement and sixteen-pane sashes to the ground and first floors, with a two-storey mid-19th century brick wing attached, incorporating double eight-panelled doors and sashes, and wavy bargeboards to the right gable end. The left return includes a lean-to conservatory and sash windows to the first floor. The rear of the property also contains sixteen-pane sash windows. The interior retains original joinery, including window shutters, doors, and a staircase.
