Description
No. 2 Silver Street is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is built from limestone rubble with brick gable stacks and a stone slate roof. The house has a two-room parallel plan, featuring a through-passage and a rear service range. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has a two-window range. The central doorway has timber lintels and six flush panels, with the top pair being glazed. The ground floor has mid-20th century metal-framed casements, while the first floor has late 20th-century casements. At the rear, there is a full-width outshut.
Inside, there is a flagged through-passage with a right-hand studwork screen. The interior includes 20th-century fireplaces, one of which is located in a deep chimney breast on the right-hand side, with a door leading to a winder stair. The first floor features studwork partitions, a rear three-light mullion window with a turnbuckle, and a small front cupboard with a bowed back. A winder stair leads to the attic, which has a three-bay roof supported by tie beam trusses with lapped collars, a notched ridge joint, and no ridge piece.
