Description
No. 1 Silver Street is a pair of houses dating from the mid-18th century. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble, which is still roughcast, with stucco quoins on the right-hand house. The building features an ashlar plinth, a brick party wall stack, and a stone slate roof that is half-hipped to the left. The houses have a single-depth plan, are two storeys tall with an attic, and each has a one-window range. The outer doorways have flush-panelled doors with top glazing, and timber lintels above ground-floor 10/10-pane sash windows, as well as similar sash windows on the first floor in exposed boxes. There are dormers with cambered heads and leaded metal casements. At the rear, there is a first-floor two-light window with a chamfered mullion. The interior of the right-hand house has been incorporated into the adjacent Masonic Hall and has undergone significant alterations, including a roof with tenoned purlins.
