Description
This is a group of four cottages at 16-22 St Edmund’s Church Street, dating to the 18th and 19th centuries. Nos 20 and 22 are two storeys and have an attic; they are constructed of chequer brick, with No. 22 having been stuccoed and featuring a new brick plinth. They originally had dormers, though these have been removed. Each cottage has two 2-light casement windows on the first floor and a single 5-pane sash window on the ground floor. The windows were originally fitted with doors of six flush panels; No. 20 has been altered, and No. 22 now has a more modern door with a small hood over it. Nos 16 and 18 are also two storeys and have an attic, constructed of red brick, with a gable end roof covered in old tiles. Each has a single dormer window and two tall 2-light casement windows on each floor; one of these windows retains shutters. The doors are located at the corners of the building, and No. 18 retains part of its original flush panelling and has plain surrounds; it also features a bracketed hood. These cottages, along with Nos 2-10 (even) and Nos 16-24 (even) and the Methodist Church are listed as forming a group.
