Description

Gables Cottage and The Gables is a house dating from the late 17th century, constructed from rubble stone with ashlar dressings. The southern section, known as No 22, features rubble stone with a rendered first floor. The building has an overall hipped roof covered with Bridgwater tiles and includes rear stacks. It is two storeys high with an attic. No 24 has a formal five-window front, two small sloping dormers, flush quoins, and two-light hollow-moulded recessed mullion windows with hoodmoulds. The central door has a bolection-moulded surround with a cornice and a 20th-century door. There are 20th-century plastic casements. A red brick lean-to is located on the left end. No 22, to the right, has two 20th-century casements above and a 20th-century casement and door below. Timber-framing was exposed during renovation, suggesting that this section may be older than the main house.
