Description

Quainton is a detached house dating from 1663, with some alterations from the 18th century and an early 19th-century extension to the right. The building is constructed of English garden wall bond brick with stone quoins, while the 19th-century addition is made of cob and has a concrete tiled roof with brick stacks. It is two stories high with an attic and features a five-window front. The central entrance has a four-panelled door set in a square-headed chamfered surround, with a datestone above. To the right of the door are three two-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows, and to the left, there is one two-light mullioned window and one two-light casement. A string course runs along the first floor, which has five two-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows. The hipped roof has two 20th-century dormers. The 19th-century extension to the right includes two-light casements on both the ground and first floors. The left side has one two-light casement on the first floor, with a 19th-century lean-to extension attached. The rear features a lean-to extension and two-light casements on the ground floor, while the first floor has one two-light mullioned window and three two-light casements. The interior was not accessible during the survey in October 1984, but it is reported to contain broad chamfered beams, early 18th-century stairs, and two six-panelled wainscot doors with butterfly hinges.
