Description
Flood Cottages are a pair of attached cottages built in 1842. They are constructed of cob and feature a Welsh slate roof with an axial brick stack. The cottages are two stories tall and have a four-window front. Each cottage has a half-glazed door with a flat hood on the left and right sides, flanked by two 20th-century casements and two 2-light 19th-century casements. The first floor includes two 20th-century casements and two 2-light 19th-century casements. At the rear, there is an original continuous integral lean-to on the ground floor, and the first floor has two 2-light casements. The gable ends have wavy bargeboards and no windows. A large cast-iron plaque on the front wall commemorates the construction of the cottages in 1842, which followed The Great Flood of 1841. This pair is one of only two in Orcheston; the others are located in Tilshead and Shrewton, although the latter are not sufficiently unaltered to be listed.
