Description

A barn dating from the mid-18th century is located at Drax House. It is timber-framed with weatherboarding, set on a brick plinth, and has a corrugated iron half-hipped roof. The barn consists of five bays, with west and east aisles. There are wagon entrances with wooden double doors in the central bay of each side. A roof truss on the north side of the threshing floor bears the initials "ED" and the date 1735. Roof trusses feature tie-beams with tension braces to jowled main posts, raking struts to principals, and collars. The aisles have tie-beams with struts to principals. Unpublished records of the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (England), Salisbury, document the barn.
