Description
29 and 30 Church Street are two houses dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. They were converted into a school in 1815, as indicated by a legend and an oval panel on the pediment to the right, with the schoolhouse to the left. The buildings are two storeys with an attic.
The left part, No 29, is constructed of coursed and squared rubble, featuring a projecting plinth and a band at the level of the ground floor window heads. It has two ranges of late glazed sash windows and an early 19th-century door to the right with four panels and an architrave surround. The roof is covered with old tiles and has two brick ridge chimneys.
The right part, No 30, is made of ashlar stone and has a projecting framing of plinth, angle pilaster strips, and a frieze above the first-floor windows. This section is topped with a pediment that has a small moulded coping and an oval date panel. It features an old tile mansard roof with one dormer containing two lights. There are two windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor, all of which are glazing bar sashes. To the right, there is a six-panel door with a flat hood supported by curved stone brackets. The core of the house likely dates from the mid to late 18th century.
