Description
Hessle Mount is a house, now functioning as a school, built around 1800. It features white brick construction with brick and stone dressings, topped with slate roofs. The original structure is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with later extensions added to the right. The central three bays project slightly and are topped with a low pediment that has shell ornamentation.
A 19th-century ashlar porch is located at the front, featuring a round-headed keyed arch flanked by fluted pilasters that support a Doric entablature. On the right side, there are two sash windows with a sill band and glazing bars, set beneath cambered wedge lintels. To the left, there are two 20th-century replacement windows with glazing bars. A band runs along the first floor, which has five sash windows with glazing bars, also under cambered wedge lintels. The building has moulded eaves and raked cornices, and the roof is hipped with end stacks.
The extension to the right has three bays on the ground floor and a single bay on the first floor, which adjoins another house. The ground floor features a French window to the left and two 20th-century replacement windows with glazing bars to the right, all under cambered wedge lintels. There is a moulded band and a hipped roof to the right. The first floor has a sill band and a sash window with glazing bars beneath a cambered wedge lintel.
Inside, the ground-floor room on the left retains a moulded plaster frieze and cornice, although few other original fittings remain.
