Description

Rose Villa is a house and former school, now divided into two separate dwellings, dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of brick with pantile roofing. It is two storeys high and has a 2-window arrangement on the first floor. Stone sills are present on all windows.

The left-hand house, dating to the late 18th century, features a central entrance with a part-glazed six-panel door within a wooden doorcase, detailed with fluted decoration, paterae, and a cornice. The ground floor windows are sash windows, while the first-floor windows are sashes with glazing bars. A cornice runs along the top of the facade and there is a cemented brick coping along with an end stack to the left.

The right-hand house, built in the 19th century, has a part-glazed entrance door with a two-pane overlight, beside a sixteen-pane sash window. The first floor features sashes with glazing bars and brick stacks at the ends.

The interior of the left-hand house includes vaulted cellars with fireplaces. The right-hand house is notable for a large room that occupies the entire front ground floor. This room features six-fielded panel doors and a decorated ceiling and was built to serve as a dame school.
