Description
No. 6 The Brittox is a mid-18th century building that stands three storeys tall and is constructed of red brick with stone rusticated flush quoins. It features a gable end slate roof and has a stone band below the eaves, although the cornice appears to have been removed. The building has three windows; the second floor windows are small, recessed, sash windows with glazing bars, set in plain stone surrounds that are shouldered at the base. The block sills are stepped up at each end, and there are keystones above the windows.
On the ground floor, there is a Victorian shop window consisting of three large lights with a fascia board above. There are entrances on either side of the shop window; the shop entrance is glazed but has a moulded bottom panel and a fanlight above, flush with the wall. The left-hand entrance features a recessed door with two full-length round-headed panels and a fanlight similar to that of the shop door. Both entrances are flanked by Doric pilasters with brackets above that support a projecting cornice.
Nos. 4 to 7 The Brittox form a group with this building.
