Description

These are two adjacent buildings, numbered 27 and 27A, located on Northgate Street, dating to around 1830. They were likely constructed in connection with the nearby canal. The buildings are built of Bath stone, with a first-floor sill course returned to the sides and rear. They have a low-pitched slate roof with projecting eaves featuring widely spaced paired cut brackets. The street front has three windows on the first floor and two on the ground floor, all with recessed sash windows and intact glazing bars. A deeply recessed central doorway features modern glazing, but retains a semi-circular radial glazed fanlight. Screen walls are located on either side of the front, sweeping up to the level of the first-floor sill; the right-hand screen wall includes a side door. The north front has three windows to both floors, one of which is blind, and these windows are similar in style to those on the main front.
