Description
Besborough Lodge, formerly known as Canal Lodge, was originally built as a lock keeper's house for the Kennet and Avon Canal. It is situated parallel to the canal, adjacent to the Town Bridge. This early 19th-century building is two storeys high, constructed from Bath stone and set on a projecting plinth. It features a low-pitched hipped slate roof with flat bracketed eaves.
The south front has one two-light recessed casement window and a recessed door to the right, which has four flush panels. The east front is canted and contains three two-light casements on each floor. All windows are small-paned and have raised stone surrounds. There is also a spy-hole window on the ground floor of the west side, providing a view of the canal.
