Description

Avon House is a large building, now serving as the offices of the Avon Rubber Company, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a two-span hipped roof covered with Welsh slate, showcasing a Regency architectural style. The front of the building is symmetrical and three stories high, with a window arrangement of 2:3:2.

The central entrance, located in a one-storey projection, features a round-arched door and is topped with a verandah. To the right of the entrance, there are two 12-pane sash windows set in recessed round-arched openings with fanlights above. Flanking the entrance are two additional 12-pane sashes.

On the first floor, there is a prominent tall stone verandah with wrought iron balconies that overlook three segmental-arched openings, which are adorned with a key pattern and separated by grooved pilasters. Behind the verandah, there is a plat band and three French windows, with two 12-pane sashes on either side, each also featuring wrought-iron balconies.

The second floor includes seven small 6-pane sash windows, with the central three separated by grooved pilasters and positioned behind a balustraded parapet that crowns the verandah. The building is finished with a cornice and a blocking course.

The right side of the building has a 12-pane sash window on the ground floor to the left and a pair of sashes to the right. The second floor features 6-pane sashes to the left and one lunette window to the right. To the left, there is a two-storey wing with two windows and sashes, along with a plat band. At the rear right, a two-storey brick wing contains six sash windows and three attic gables. The interior has not been inspected.
