Description

Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house, dating from the late 16th century and 17th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with a single Roman tiled roof and brick stacks. The building features a five-bay cruck house with a 17th-century rear wing. It is two stories high and has three windows; the windows are casements. There is no entrance at the front. The ground floor has three 2-light and two 3-light casements, while the first floor has one 3-light and two 2-light casements. The left side of the building has a reset planked and studded door along with 20th-century casements. The rear includes a 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement, a 20th-century casement, and a blocked window. The rear wing has a planked door and 2-light casements, along with two blocked doorways, and the first floor features a 3-light chamfered mullioned casement. Inside, there are four exposed full cruck trusses with collars and spurs, with the north cruck possibly embedded in the exterior wall and not visible. The purlins are on the backs of the crucks. There is an open fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel on brick jambs, along with other blocked fireplaces and deeply chamfered beams. The south bay may be a 17th-century addition. This farmhouse is a rare example of a large cruck-built house in this area.
