Description
Timber Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the 17th century. It features a combination of rubble stone and square panelled timber-framing with brick nogging, topped by a half-hipped thatched roof and brick stacks. The central three bays are timber framed, while there are rubble stone bays at either end, with the left bay being a 20th-century addition. The cottage is two storeys high and has five windows, all of which are casements. There is a 20th-century door with a rustic porch to the right of the timber-framed bay, a two-light casement to the right, and two two-light, one-light, and a 20th-century casement to the left. On the first floor, there is a 20th-century casement, a two-light casement in an oriel, a blocked two-light wooden mullioned window, and three two-light casements. The rear of the cottage has a lean-to extension on the left and a two-storey wing on the right, with two-light and three-light casements on both floors. The right return features 20th-century applied close studding. The interior was not accessible during the survey in June 1985, but it is reported to have chamfered beams, open fireplaces, including one with a chip-carved overmantel, and 17th-century panelling.
