Description

Westwick Row Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century, originally a 2-bay cruck house, with additions from the 16th and 17th centuries. The structure consists of a large block and a smaller block that are joined together. It features painted brick and plaster with plain tile roofs. The left block is two storeys high with two windows, while the right block is one storey with attics and also has two windows. At the junction of the upper and lower sections, there is a large 17th-century cruciform red brick chimney stack, which is accompanied by a gabled dormer and a door below it. The windows are fitted with 20th-century glazing bar casements. The right block contains the two cruck bays, and at the right end, there is a contemporary two-storey bay that may have been built as a grain store. Originally, there were two more crucks in the space of the current left block. The two bays feature three crucks that extend continuously from the floor to the ridge, connected longitudinally by long curved wind braces. The left block, dating from the late 17th century, includes ovolo moulded floor beams and a fireplace bressumer.
