Description

Eardisley Wooton Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 13th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and mid-19th century. The structure features a roughcast timber frame with painted rubble refacing and a rubble addition. It has stone tiled roofs arranged in diminishing courses, with a half-hipped west end and a rubble ridge stack that has a brick shaft, as well as a large brick ridge stack.

The farmhouse is a cruck hall house with four framed bays oriented roughly east to west, including a through-passage bay. In the 17th century, an upper floor was added, along with a chimney that backs onto the passage. A two-bay cross-wing was constructed at the west end, featuring a large chimney at the junction of the two ranges. The building is single storey with an attic.

The north front elevation of the main range has two 3-light casements and a 2-light casement on the ground floor, a 19th-century gabled dormer with a 2-light casement, a skylight, and two partly-glazed doors. There is also a doorway in the cross-wing gable end to the left and an attic light at the east end.

Inside, cruck trusses with collars are still visible, along with large wall-framing panels in the main range. The doorway at the northern end of the passage features a two-centred arched head made from massive timbers, with a square-headed doorway inserted within it. The cross-wing contains internal wall-framing, and the chimney has a pair of large fireplaces with chamfered timber lintels.
