Description

Rowleys is an early 17th century detached cottage located on the north side of Main Street, Keevil. The building is timber-framed with painted brick nogging, with sections rebuilt in rubble stone, and has a thatched roof featuring brick stacks to the right and centre.

The internal layout originally comprised a through passage to the rear of the central stack, a hall to the left, and former service rooms to the right, now a parlour. The cottage is single-storey with an attic, and has two windows at the front. A planked door with a gabled canopy is positioned to the right of centre, alongside a two-light casement window to each side. A full gabled attic dormer to the left features a two-light casement and carved barge boards with a pendant, while a smaller eyebrow dormer to the right has a four-light casement; all windows feature leaded glass. The right return side displays two-light casement windows. The rear elevation includes a planked door to the through passage and two-light casement windows.

Inside, the cottage retains deep chamfered beams with stepped stops and exposed joists in the parlour, located to the right of the passage. A large open fireplace with a deeply chamfered lintel is also present, along with planked doors. The west end of the roof shows curved wind bracing.
