Description
The front garden walls with archway at Keevil Manor date from around 1611 and are attached to the southwest corner of the manor, extending across the front to form an arched gateway. The walls are constructed from rubble stone and feature steeply pitched coping. The Renaissance gateway is notable for its round arch, which includes carved spandrels and a keystone, as well as imposts, Tuscan pilasters, and an entablature. The top of the gateway is moulded and adorned with strapwork and a ball finial. On either side of the gateway, there are short ashlar walls that include a shell-headed niche and a ball finial on the coping. The main entrance features a ledged and studded door with ornamental strap hinges, and there is a smaller pedestrian door with an arched head set within the main door.
