Description

Westcourt Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse with additions dating to circa 1772, and later alterations. It is constructed of diaper brick, originally with a thatched roof. The farmhouse has two storeys and originally comprised two bays at the east end, dating back to the early 18th century. These connect to a third bay which links to a cross wing against the road, previously a malthouse, now incorporating one bay of a former kiln house. The original building features a plat band and a door at the left end, topped with a gabled open porch. Timber casement windows are present throughout. The link bay mirrors this glazing. The kiln house consists of two bays, with a high ground floor and a 20th-century glazed porch on the south side. Stacks are located at the junction of the kiln house and the link bay, and at the east gable end. An outshut is situated at the rear of the original building. A scratched date of 1772 is visible on the brickwork of the malthouse, with the rear bay of which having been removed. The interior of the kiln house retains original lath and plaster, and tile hung substructure to the roof ventilator, now enclosed beneath a later roof.
