Description

No 9 on Monday Market Street is a late 18th-century building that stands three storeys tall and is constructed of painted brick. It has a gable end slate roof with ridge tiles, some of which are made of stone, and features a shallow eaves band.

On the second floor, there are two square, recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars, flat gauged brick arches, and block sills. The first floor has four narrower windows: two are blind, and two are small 19th-century canted bays that align with the second-floor windows. These bays have sash lights with later glazing bars, plain surrounds, and are supported on brackets with small cornices and leaded roofs.

The ground floor features a mid-19th-century shop front with two windows and two lights, divided by colonettes. The upper part of the shop front is obscured by ventilation slats, and there are double glazed doors in the center. To the left, there is a recessed door with six flush panels. The doors and the right-hand window are flanked by Doric pilasters on pedestals, with a frieze above and a cornice that has a diamond band.

This building is part of a group with Nos 6 to 15 on the street.
