Description
Boyds Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, constructed from rubble stone with a concrete tile roof. It features a coped south gable and ridge stack on the north and west ranges. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has an 'L'-shaped plan, including an 18th-century addition at the angle.
The north range has recessed chamfered mullion windows on the east end, with a 2-light window in the attic and a 3-light window with a hoodmould on the ground and first floors. The north side wall has various windows, some blocked doors, and several mullion windows. The west end has a blank attic light and unmoulded 3-light windows on the first floor to the right and in the centre of the ground floor.
The rear wing features a 2-window range to the west, with recessed chamfered mullion windows that have hoodmoulds, including a 3-light window in the centre and a 2-light window to the right. The right and south end gable is a 19th-century addition. To the left, there is a 6-panel door in a moulded flush surround with a hood supported by brackets. The south end wall from the 19th century has a blank attic light, a 16-pane sash window, and French windows within an early 19th-century iron porch.
On the east side, the division between the original wing and the addition is marked by quoins. The original range, partly obscured by the 18th-century addition to the rear of the north range, includes a coped dormer gable, a blocked attic window with a hoodmould, and a one-window range of 2-light recessed chamfered mullion windows with hoodmoulds. The 18th-century addition at the angle has a one-window range of 3-light bead-moulded windows to the left and a Bridgwater tile lean-to to the right on the south front. Similar 3-light windows are present on both floors of the east end wall.
