Description

This is a late 17th-century building, significantly altered in the 18th century, located on the west side of Southbroom Road. The building is arranged over two storeys and an attic, and is divided into three distinct sections. The ground floor is constructed of red brick, while the upper part has a rough cast timber frame, distinguished by a moulded bressumer. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. The roof is hipped and features a mansard design, with an older tile section at the lower part and pantiles covering the upper section. Symmetrical chimneys divide the building into its three components. Dormers are present: two on the left and centre are semi-circular headed, each containing two-light pointed 'Gothic' casements with lead covering; the dormer on the right is a later 19th-century addition. The first floor features three three-light casements with glazing bars contained within flush frames. The ground floor has three sash windows in flush frames, later augmented with cornices. Each section has a door consisting of six fielded panels, each bearing a later added pedimented hood. Nos 33 to 45, also on Southbroom Road, form a related group.
