Description

The Frying Pan Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse located off the south side of Melksham Lane in Broughton Gifford. It is built of rubble stone with a double Roman tiled roof and brick stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan with a service wing and former stable at the rear.

The main south-facing front is two storeys high and has three windows. A planked door is accessed under a flat stone hood supported by brackets. To the right of the door is a three-light beaded mullioned casement window with a hoodmould, and to the left a three-light cyma-mullioned casement. The first floor has a central two-light mullioned casement and a three-light mullioned casement to the centre, all with cyma moulding. These first floor windows are now replacements with plastic frames. The left-hand return side has blocked two-light mullioned casements, while the right-hand return side features a two-light cyma-mullioned casement and a parallel range with single-light beaded-moulded casements. A lean-to extension to the rear has cyma-mullioned casements. The rear wing includes two-light flush mullioned casements and a planked door, and a circular stone pitching eye is positioned above the planked door on its east-facing side. The interior is reported to contain a blocked open fireplace.
