Description

Egerton House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house. It dates from the 18th century and was refenestrated in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble stone and features a hipped roof covered with double Roman tiles and brick stacks. It is two storeys high with three windows.

The central entrance is highlighted by a Tuscan portico that supports a four-panelled door with a transom light set in an ovolo-moulded surround. On either side of the entrance are margin-pane French windows. The first floor has three margin-pane sash windows framed by plain architraves. There are two hipped 20th-century dormers in the attic that contain 2-light casements.

On the left side of the building, there is a 2-light cyma-mullioned casement. At the rear, a central stair turret features 2-light mullioned casements and a hipped roof, with a lean-to extension to the right and a single-storey wing to the left that includes mullioned casements and an attic. The interior was not accessible during the survey in December 1986, but it is reported to have a bolection-moulded fireplace on the first floor and an unusual roof structure with extended collars over the gabled stack and stair turret.
