Description
Nos 28A, 30, and 32 Lowbourne is a row of three houses that were originally a cloth mill, built in the mid-18th century. The building is constructed from rubblestone and features a half-hipped stone slate roof with an ashlar stack that has a moulded capping. It is oriented at right angles to the street and has three storeys with three windows.
On the ground floor, there are two doors with chamfered cases for Nos 30 and 32, while the entrance to No 28 is located at the rear. The ground floor windows are 19th and 20th century casements and sashes set in stone cases. The first floor includes three 3-light cyma-mullioned windows, one of which has a blocked light on the left side. The second floor is partially within the roof and features three 2-light cyma-mullioned windows with sashes.
The right side of the building has a gable end facing the street, with a 2-light cyma-mullioned window on each of the three floors; the upper window is an insertion into a larger opening, likely related to its former use as a mill. At the rear, there is a 20th-century extension to No 28A and some blocked mullioned windows. The building has group value with No 34, as it is part of the same industrial complex.
