Description
No 38 is a detached cottage, probably dating from the 16th century. It features rendered timber-framing and a thatched roof, which has a half-hip on the left and a hip on the right, along with an axial brick stack. The gable end faces the road, and there is a baffle-entry. The cottage is two-storey with one window. A planked door is located in a thatched porch to the right of the center, with a two-light casement on either side and a single-light casement on the first floor. The left side facing the road has a 20th-century ground floor casement and a two-light casement on the first floor. The rear of the cottage displays an exposed square-panelled timber-frame, with a two-light casement on the ground floor, a three-light casement on the first floor, and a lean-to extension attached to the left. The interior was not accessible during the survey in December 1986. This small cottage shares several features with No 40 and may have been built around the same time.
