Description

A pair of cottages, likely dating from the early 17th century, now combined into a single house. The cottages are timber-framed with brick nogging, and feature some herringbone brick panels. The roof is pantiled, with brick stacks located at the right gable end and to the left of the centre. The house has three bays and a baffle entry. The front elevation is two storeys high, with five windows. Original ledged doors are present on the left side and at the baffle entry. The ground floor windows comprise two 3-light casements, two small 2-light leaded casements, and a pair of 2-light casements, all with renewed 20th-century leading. The first floor has five 2-light casements, two of which are situated within flush gabled dormers, and one within a half dormer. The rear of the building has been rebuilt; the left portion is of rubble stone, while the right portion is brick. The rear also features 20th-century leaded casements and raised brick eaves, likely dating to the 18th century. Inside, there are chamfered beams with bar stops, timber-framed partitions with wattle and daub panels, an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel, planked doors, and flagstone floors. An unusual “black-work” painting is visible on a ground floor beam, depicting two horses, one with a rider, and a standing figure.
