Description

Christchurch is an Anglican parish church built in 1860 by T. Cundy. The church is constructed of coursed rubble stone and features a pantiled roof with coped verges and cross finials. It consists of a nave and chancel, with a west bellcote positioned above the entrance. The entrance has a planked west door set in a moulded surround with attached shafts, and a moulded string course that extends as a hoodmould, topped by a six-point star-shaped window. The steeply gabled ashlar bellcote has a pointed opening.

On the south side of the nave, there are four pointed 2-light windows adorned with 14th-century style geometric tracery, along with buttresses that have offsets. The north side features three 2-light windows and a lean-to vestry that includes a shouldered doorway and a stack to the east. The chancel has two 2-light windows on both the south and north sides, and a 3-light window at the east end, with flush flanking buttresses.

Inside, there is an entrance lobby at the west end. The nave boasts a 4-bay deep arch-braced collar truss roof supported by stone corbels, with exposed rafters featuring chamfered soffits and a polychrome tiled floor. The chancel arch is plain and chamfered, adorned with a painted Biblical inscription, and there is an open screen. The chancel ceiling is planked, and the floor is also covered in polychrome tiles.

Fittings include original 19th-century seating in the nave and chancel, a wooden polygonal pulpit, and an octagonal stone font on a pedestal. There are stone prayer boards flanking the altar and a benefaction board from 1724 on the west wall of the nave, which commemorates a gift from Joan White.
