Description
Withdean House is a detached house built in 1802, as indicated by the inscription on the oval datestone above the door. The house is constructed of Flemish bond brick with stone dressings, featuring chamfered quoins and a Welsh slate roof that has a coped verge and gable end brick stacks. It is two storeys high with three windows. The central entrance is a half-glazed door that is sheltered by a flat stone hood supported by brackets. On either side of the door are pairs of 12-pane sash windows set within chamfered architraves. There is a plat band at the first floor level, where the central sash window is flanked by a pair of sash windows. The left side of the house has two-light chamfered mullioned casements, while the right side is constructed of English bond brick. At the rear, there is a later 19th-century wing that features 20th-century casements.
