Description
Sunnyside is a detached cottage, likely dating from the 16th century. It features rendered timber-framing on a rubble stone plinth and has a double Roman tiled roof, with a half-hip on the left side and a hip on the right. There is an axial brick stack and a through passage leading to the rear of the main stack. The cottage is two-storey with a two-window west front. The central entrance has a half-glazed door, flanked by a 2-light casement window on the left and a 3-light casement on the right. On the first floor, there is a 2-light casement window to the left and a 3-light casement to the right. The left side has an added external stack. The rear features a planked door within a lean-to porch on the left and a 2-light casement window on the right. The first floor has a single-light casement and a 2-light casement window. Inside, there is a timber-framed partition on the north side of the through passage, a blocked open fireplace in the room to the right, deep chamfered beams with stepped stops, exposed joists, and planked doors. This small two-cell cottage retains many original features and is similar to the adjacent No 38. The north room was formerly unheated, and the 'hall' was located in the south room. The first floor is not accessible, but the original roof is likely intact.
