Description

LUCKINGTON

1384/0/10029 Bridge about 50 metres SSE of Rectory 05-APR-04 Farmhouse at NGR ST838841

GV II Bridge over tributary of River Avon. Circa C18; widened circa early C19. Limestone, of drystone construction. The original C18 bridge on the upstream [south] side was a narrow pack-horse bridge of four spans with stone piers supporting stone slab lintels. In about the early C19 the bridge was widened on the downstream [north] side by the addition of four small round arches with rough stone voussoirs. There are no parapets and the track is unmettled. An interesting example of an C18 pack-horse bridge widened in the early C19 for the passage of carts.
