Description
The Ball and Mitchell monuments are two chest tombs located in the churchyard, between 19 and 22 meters north of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. These tombs date from the late 18th century and are made of limestone. They share a similar design featuring two shield-shaped fielded panels. The Mitchell tomb is adorned with fielded and fluted pilasters, while the Ball tomb has foliage-carved pilasters, both topped with moulded flat surfaces. The inscription on the Mitchell tomb is partly illegible, whereas the Ball tomb commemorates George Ball, who died in 1778.
