Description
The churchyard walls and railings in front of Wilton Parish Church (St Mary and St Nicholas) were built around 1844. The central railings consist of 12 panels of cast iron, each approximately 8 feet long, featuring a lattice design of linked quatrefoils with trefoil cresting standards that have fleur de lys heads and shaped dog-leg stanchions. On either side of the railings are gates that match this design, set within vermiculated gatepiers topped with an arcaded panel, corner shafts, and moulded capping. The walls on both sides extend about 25 yards in length and stand about 4 feet 6 inches high. They have a high battered plinth and a parapet that is pierced with moulded oculi beneath the coping.
