Description
The Sculpture of the Four Elements is a sculptural group located approximately 480 meters southeast of the remains of Old Fonthill Abbey. This mid-19th century artwork features near life-size statues representing the Four Elements, crafted from limestone and set on a plinth. It is reputed that the Marquess of Westminster acquired these statues at the Paris Exhibition in either 1855 or 1867 for the gardens surrounding Fonthill Abbey, which was designed by William Burn in 1846 and demolished in 1955.
