Description
Three urns are located on the site of the old Fonthill Abbey, likely dating from the mid-19th century. They are made of limestone. The large urn in the center stands on a square corniced plinth adorned with lion's heads on each side. This urn features decorative swags and scrolled volutes. On either side of the central urn are smaller urns, each also set on a square corniced plinth with rosettes. These smaller urns have gadrooned rims and strap decorations on their sides. It is said that these urns were brought to this location by the Marquess of Westminster from the Paris Exhibition of either 1855 or 1867, following the demolition of Beckford's Abbey and the construction of a nearby country house by William Burn for the Westminsters, which was demolished in 1955.
