Description

This is an 18th-century barn, likely incorporating elements of earlier 17th-century timber framing. It is situated 60 metres north-east of Dudmore Lodge, within an outfield farmyard. The barn is characterised by its weatherboarding and corrugated iron roof. It comprises 7 bays, with a narrow aisle on the south side. Cart entrances are located in the third and sixth bays. Internally, the barn features chamfered ties on jowelled posts which support queen struts and collars, along with two tiers of butt purlins. Straight windbraces are present on the upper tier of purlins. The structure includes halved and bridled plates, and carpenters' marks are visible, indicating rebuilding work. The initials BT and FS are also present. Outfield barns of this type are increasingly rare in the area.
