Description
Old Swan House is a section of the former Swan Inn, now functioning as a house. It dates from the late 16th century and was restored in the 20th century. The building features coursed rubble that is rendered, with stone dressings and a gabled stone slate roof that has a brick stack at the east end. The rear section has an L-shaped plan, connecting with Nos 19 and 21 High Street.
The north front has two storeys and five bays, showcasing cavetto-moulded mullioned windows. There is a prominent five-light cross-mullion window with small leaded pane casements and a hoodmould at the centre of the ground floor, while the other windows consist of two, three, and four lights, all with hoodmoulds and similar casements. The facade includes two doorways topped with flat hoods supported by carved brackets, leading to plank doors. Additional mullioned windows can be found on the west end wall.
Inside, there is a late 16th-century stone fireplace in the ground floor room to the right, featuring a double chamfer. The original collar beam roof structure is supported by massive trusses.
