Description

This is a former inn, now a house and solicitor's office, dating to circa 1710. It was altered in the early 19th century and extensively re-ordered internally in the 20th century. The west front is colourwashed render, while the rear range is of coursed rubble with stone dressings and a gabled stone slate roof, featuring end brick stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan.

The west front is two storeys high with three windows. The ground-floor windows are wide 12-pane sashes set within blocked surrounds. The upper-floor windows are narrower, early 18th-century eighteen-pane sashes in similar surrounds. A central doorway is topped by a stone shell hood supported on ornately carved brackets, with a 6-panel door fitted. Rusticated quoins define the corners, and a moulded coved cornice extends upwards to form a proto-pediment above the central upper window.
