Description
Alma Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located in Seend on Bell Hill. It is constructed of rubble stone and features a stone slate roof with end stacks and a pebbledashed south end wall. The cottage is one and a half storeys tall and has a six-panel door. To the left of the door is a six-pane window, which was formerly a door, with brick jambs. To the right, there is a four-light timber-mullion window, and above it, an eaves hipped dormer. The north end of the cottage has a lean-to with a hipped roof. At the front, there is a projecting pantiled outbuilding that is now used as a garage. The rear wall includes a four-light timber-mullion window with a cambered brick head. Inside, there is a beam dated 1651, and historical deeds from 1649 and 1662 indicate that the house was owned by the Usher family and was known as Shaell's House.
