Description
The Bell is an 18th-century inn, likely re-facing an earlier timber-framed building. It has a roof of Bridgwater tiles and two brick stacks, one on the east end and one along the ridge. The building is two storeys high with an attic.
The north front shows a vertical joint running parallel to the ridge stack. To the left are two first-floor windows with curved mullions, flush with the brickwork, featuring brick arches, stone keystones, and brick voussoirs. The ground floor mirrors this design, featuring a recessed two-light window with curved mullions. A half-glazed door sits within a raised, moulded surround topped with a hood supported by brackets, leading to a large, flat-roofed projection with a 20-pane window. A windowless section occupies the right side of the north front, with a chequered brick pattern visible on the ground floor.
The west end features attic, first-floor, and ground-floor windows, all with flush stone surrounds. The attic window has 12 panes, the first floor has 16 panes, and the ground floor windows are paired 12-pane sashes. The south-west corner is chamfered, with a door set into the angle.
The rear of the building is roughcast, and includes an eaves dormer with a hipped roof. On the east end is a two-window range of 12-pane sashes, the lower pair set within brick heads, stone keystones, and moulded flush surrounds. A rear wing, with a hipped roof at its south end, is distinguished by a side wall stack and first-floor 16-pane sashes on each side. Inside, a heavy, chamfered beam runs across the entrance passage.
